Cookie Policy

This policy explains how Wonders of Maths Limited (“WoM”, “Educai”, “we”, “us”) uses cookies and similar technologies on educai.io and the Educai platform, what each cookie does, and how you can control them. It sits alongside our Privacy Notice, which explains how we handle personal data more generally.

1. What cookies are

A cookie is a small text file that a website stores on your device. Cookies let a site remember things between page loads and between visits — for example, that you are signed in, or what you have added to a basket. We also use similar technologies such as browser local storage, and this policy covers those too.Cookies set by educai.io are called first-party cookies.

Cookies set by another company whose service we use, such as Google Analytics, are called third-party cookies.

Where these technologies collect data about you, that data may include your IP address, device identifier, approximate location, browser type and internet service provider. Our Privacy Notice explains the lawful bases on which we use it.

2. Children and cookies

Our services are provided to and used by children, so we take particular care here and have regard to the ICO’s Age Appropriate Design Code (the “Children’s Code”).

Where we rely on consent to set optional cookies for a child under the age of 18, that consent is given and managed by the child’s parent or carer. We do not use cookies to profile children for marketing, and we do not use advertising cookies at all. A parent or carer can review or change a child’s cookie choices at any time using the Cookie settings link described in section 6, or by contacting us.

3. The categories we use

We group cookies into two categories:

‍• Strictly necessary. Required to deliver the service you have asked for — keeping you signed in, holding a booking together while you complete it, preventing payment fraud, and remembering your cookie choices. These cannot be switched off, and the law does not require your consent for them.

• Analytics. Help us understand how the platform is used — which pages are visited, which features are used — so we can improve it. These are off by default and are only set if you turn them on.

We do not use advertising or marketing cookies, and we do not sell data to advertisers. Google’s advertising and personalisation storage is explicitly denied on our site at all times.

4. Cookies we set

These cookies are set by us and are all strictly necessary.

‍• __session — keeps tutors, parents and staff signed in. Contains a signed reference to a session record held on our servers, not your personal details. Expires after 90 days.

‍• student — the equivalent sign-in cookie for student accounts. Expires after 90 days.

‍• __assessment — holds your progress through an assessment so a part-finished assessment can be resumed rather than restarted. Expires when you close your browser.

‍• cookieConsent — remembers the cookie choices you made in our banner, so we do not ask you on every visit. Expires after 1 year.

‍• cart — holds the booster sessions you have added to your basket. Expires after 1 day.

‍• checkout — carries your booking details safely between our booking form and our payment provider. Expires after 1 day.

‍• pendingStudents — holds details of children added during a booking that has not yet been paid for, so the booking is not lost part-way through. Expires after 1 day.

‍• savedChildren — remembers the children you have booked for previously so you do not have to re-enter their details next time. Expires after 30 days.

‍5. Cookies set by others

Analytics — only with your consent

These are set only after you choose “Accept all”, or enable Analytics in “Manage preferences”. If you reject them they are never set, and if you withdraw consent later we stop sending data and reset the identifier.

‍• _ga (Google Analytics) — distinguishes one visitor from another so visits can be counted. Expires after 2 years.

‍• _ga_<ID> (Google Analytics) — maintains the state of your visit for our specific property. Expires after 2 years.

‍• mp_<ID>_mixpanel (Mixpanel) — records which pages and features are used, against an anonymous identifier, so we can see what is working. Mixpanel data is processed on Mixpanel’s EU servers. Expires after 1 year.

‍Payments — strictly necessary

When you reach a payment page, our payment provider Stripe sets cookies to detect and prevent fraudulent payments. These are essential to processing a payment safely and are set regardless of your analytics choice. Stripe does not use them to advertise to you.

‍• __stripe_mid (Stripe) — fraud prevention; recognises the device across payments. Expires after 1 year.
‍• __stripe_sid (Stripe) — fraud prevention; identifies the current payment session. Expires after 30 minutes.

‍If you are sent to a Stripe-hosted payment page to complete a purchase, Stripe also sets cookies on its own domain, governed by Stripe’s cookie policy.

Support chat — strictly necessary

Signed-in users see an in-app support chat provided by Plain. It stores an identifier in your browser so that a conversation you start stays connected to you and you can see replies. It is only loaded once you are signed in, and is not used for analytics or advertising.

Emails — web beacons and pixel tags

Our marketing emails are sent through SendGrid and may contain a small invisible image (a “web beacon” or “pixel tag”) that tells us whether the email was opened and whether links in it were clicked. We use this to measure whether our emails are useful. These are not cookies on our website, but they work in a similar way, so we disclose them here.

You can stop this by using the unsubscribe link in any marketing email, or by setting your email software to block remote images.

6. How to manage your cookies

When you first visit, a banner asks for your choice. You can accept all, reject all optional cookies, or open Manage preferences to choose per category. Rejecting is as easy as accepting.

‍To change your mind later, use the Cookie settings link in the footer of the platform. Your new choice takes effect immediately.

You can also control cookies in your browser — every major browser lets you block or delete them. Be aware that blocking strictly necessary cookies will stop you from signing in and from completing a booking. Instructions are available for Chrome, Safari, Firefox and Edge.

7. Changes to this policy

We update this policy when the cookies we use change. The date at the top shows when it was last revised. If we introduce a new category of cookie, we will ask for your consent again.
