The Rollerskater

These students are quick and speedy. They are highly competitive students that are always up for a challenge when it comes to competing in games or with their peers. They benefit from a structured approach and being encouraged to spend more reading and understanding the question before jumping into it.

A tool for educators, by educators

Teaching tips

⏰    Avoid rushing

Remind the student to read questions slowly to avoid silly mistakes and rushing into the question. Try reading the question twice and underlining key words to further help them understand what the question is asking for.

🖇    Work on lateral thinking skills

Relate what you’re teaching to other subjects the student might be familiar with through analogies. This helps them remember the concept more easily. Asking them to draw a mind map while you’re teaching can also help them visualise how different topics link together and see the bigger picture.

🎡    Look at questions from various angles

Go through past papers with these students to help them familiarise themselves with more challenging questions. Looking at questions from different angles can help the student familiarise themselves with more creative problem solving skills.

🏆   Bring in competitive aspects

These students love competing with their peers. In a group class, try occasionally setting up mini competitions for students to keep engaged and fired up in their sessions. If you’re in a 1-1, try a timed activity, instead!
